What is Law Day? Law Day is the annual commemoration held on May 1st to celebrate the rule of law. This day is meant to cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal system.
This year's theme for Law Day by the American Bar Association (ABA) is "Voices of Democracy." This theme is designed to recognize that in democracies, the people rule. Americans have been "speaking" their mind and voting in elections for almost 250 years.
The ABA has a complete program that includes streaming content to help celebrate. They also provide a history of Law Day on their website to help the legal community and all Americans, in general, understand the importance of this day and bring special themes to light. Some examples of past themes include 2013: Realizing the Dream: Equality for All, 2012: No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom, and 1989: Access to Justice, just to name a few. Please find the link to their website here. This includes a complete listing of all past themes and any available resources for those themes.
When researching this special holiday, our team discovered a fascinating lesson on Democratic Poetry. This lesson is intended for middle and high school students, but we suggest you read some of the recommended poetry here and see what speaks to you on this year's Law Day. These poems are all thought-provoking and moving, no matter your age.
The AdvoCap Insurance Agency, Inc. team wants to say Happy Law Day to all of our friends in the legal community. We hope that you get to celebrate the day. We see what you do and recognize the importance. If we can support you in your insurance needs, we hope you will reach out. We can be reached any day via email at info@advocapinsurance.com.
