National Life Insurance Day marks the anniversary of the first day that life insurance became available in the United States. The first life insurance company submitted a charter for the Corporation for Relief of Poor and Distressed Widows and Children of Presbyterian Ministers on May 2, 1759. Episcopalian priests also created a relief fund in 1769. This started the life insurance industry, which has continued to evolve.

What does life insurance do for you? Life insurance covers the life of the insured party. In the event of the parties’ passing, the payout is given to the beneficiary to cover whatever they choose.
